Trip Summary
This will be the final opportunity to transit the Northwest Passage onboard the legendary icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov from West Greenland, through Canada’s High Arctic to Russia’s little visited Chukotka Peninsula, in the wake of Amundsen and Franklin. The region is not only steeped in history, but offers spectacular scenery and wildlife; marine mammals, musk oxen and polar bear, along with the opportunity to meet the Inuit peoples from all three regions. Journey with special guest, explorer John Murray, who was so inspired by his passion for the Franklin saga that he backed the Irish-Canadian Franklin Search Expedition that sought the underwater location of the ships Erebus and Terror. He will introduce the film he subsequently made and deliver lectures on the expedition, as well as his adventures filming in some of the wildest places on Earth.
